Common Plot: Gardening in Common – Grow Together, Share the Bounty
At Common Plot, our mission is simple: to foster a community around gardening, promoting shared knowledge, collaborative growing, and the joy of cultivating together. We believe that gardening is more rewarding when shared and that by creating common ground for gardeners, we can learn from each other, support each other, and enjoy the collective bounty of our efforts. Whether you’re interested in community gardens, shared gardening spaces, collaborative projects, or simply connecting with fellow gardeners, Common Plot will guide you through the “why” of community gardening and the “how-to” build a thriving gardening community.
Our Story
Common Plot was co-founded by Owen Davies and Clara Miller, two passionate community gardeners who believe in the power of shared green spaces and collaborative cultivation. Their years of experience in community garden projects and urban farming initiatives, combined with a belief that gardening should be a shared and accessible activity, led them to create Common Plot as a platform for connecting gardeners and promoting community-based gardening.
Owen brings his practical expertise in community garden management and a focus on sustainable and collaborative growing practices to Common Plot, while Clara infuses her passion for community building and a belief in the social and environmental benefits of shared green spaces into every community garden profile and resource guide. Together, they’ve explored community garden models and collaborative gardening projects from around the world (from urban farms to neighborhood plots) to curate a collection of resources and inspiration that embodies the essence of Common Plot: gardening in common.
Why we started Common Plot
Unlike many gardening websites focused on individual gardening practices, Common Plot is dedicated to the concept of community gardening and shared cultivation. Yes, you’ll find resources for successful gardening and plant profiles, but you’ll also explore the why behind the benefits of community gardening. Why is gardening more rewarding in community? How do shared gardens foster social connection? When does collaborative effort lead to greater gardening success? And how can community gardening contribute to local food security and environmental sustainability? By exploring these elements, you’ll unlock the potential of gardening in common with Common Plot.
We celebrate the beauty of community, collaboration, and the shared joy of gardening. commonplot isn’t just about growing plants; it’s about growing connections, building community, and sharing the bounty of our collective efforts. That’s why Common Plot encourages you to connect with fellow gardeners, participate in community projects, and above all, enjoy the journey of gardening together in common.
